About Tier 1 Furnishings — Acacia Wood Furniture Factory, Chiang Mai
Tier 1 Furnishings is a custom acacia wood furniture manufacturer based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We design and handcraft solid wood furniture in our own workshop, working directly with retail buyers, interior designers, commercial clients, and wholesale importers across more than 20 countries.
We are not a trading company, a dropshipper, or a middleman. Every piece that carries the Tier 1 Furnishings name was built by our team in Chiang Mai.
Our Story
Tier 1 Furnishings was founded in Chiang Mai with a straightforward belief: that the gap between a furniture factory in Southeast Asia and a buyer in Europe, Australia, or the United States should not need to be filled by three layers of trading companies and distributors. Buyers deserve access to genuinely handcrafted furniture at honest prices. Craftsmen deserve recognition and fair compensation for the skill that goes into each piece.
We set out to build a direct relationship between our workshop and the people who ultimately live with the furniture we make. That means transparent pricing, honest lead times, custom specifications as a standard offering rather than a premium, and a willingness to say no to orders we cannot do well rather than overpromise and underdeliver.
Over the years, that approach has built a business that serves a wide range of clients: homeowners furnishing a living room, interior designers specifying bespoke pieces for high-end residential projects, restaurateurs equipping dining rooms, and importers filling containers for their retail networks in the US, UK, and beyond.
Our Craftsmen
Our workshop team brings together over 100 years of combined woodworking expertise. Many of our craftsmen come from woodworking families with multiple generations of experience in the Chiang Mai region — a part of Thailand that has been producing skilled furniture and decorative woodcraft for centuries. This depth of experience shows in the quality of joinery, the care taken in surface preparation, and the eye for grain character and natural wood beauty that distinguishes our work from mass-produced furniture.
We invest in our team. Good craftsmen are the foundation of everything we make, and we believe in maintaining stable, long-term working relationships with the people whose skills are ultimately embodied in every table and chair we produce.
Our Material: Acacia Wood
We work primarily with solid acacia hardwood sourced from sustainably managed plantations in Thailand and the wider Southeast Asian region. Acacia is our material of choice for several reasons: it is genuinely hard (approximately 1,700 lbf on the Janka scale), naturally resistant to moisture and scratching, sustainably and rapidly grown, and visually striking — its irregular grain and colour variation from golden honey through deep walnut-brown make every piece unique.
We use FSC-certified or equivalent acacia, kiln-dried to ensure dimensional stability. We believe in knowing where our material comes from and being able to account for it.
