Tier 1 Furnishings specialises in full container load (FCL) exports of solid acacia wood furniture, direct from our factory in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Whether you are a furniture importer, a retailer building stock, or a design studio specifying a large project, we fill 20ft and 40ft containers with custom-built acacia pieces at factory-direct pricing — and handle everything from production through export documentation.
Why Fill a Container?
A full container load is the most cost-effective way to import furniture from Southeast Asia. The per-unit freight cost drops dramatically when you fill a container versus shipping individual pieces, and factory-direct sourcing removes the distributor and importer margins you pay when buying through a trading company or retail channel.
A standard 20ft container holds approximately 25–33 cubic metres of packaged furniture — typically 50–80 mid-size pieces depending on design. A 40ft container holds 55–67 cubic metres — roughly double. For a full container loaded with custom acacia dining tables, chairs, coffee tables, and accessories, the economics are compelling versus buying finished goods at retail in your home market.
What We Can Fill Your Container With
There is no requirement to fill your container with a single product line. Most of our container orders are mixed loads — a combination of dining tables, chairs, coffee tables, stools, benches, consoles, and decorative pieces designed to work together as a complementary collection. We help you plan the container mix to maximise the value of your cubic metres.
Popular container mixes include:
- Dining furniture collection — tables, chairs, and benches to serve multiple room configurations
- Living room collection — coffee tables, console tables, stools, and accent pieces
- Full room sets — dining and living combinations for furniture retailers stocking complete ranges
- Hospitality collection — contract-grade restaurant tables, bar stools, and seating for hotel and restaurant buyers
- Mixed wholesale stock — a curated assortment of best-selling designs for furniture retailers
The Container Order Process
Step 1 — Enquiry and initial quote. Contact us with your target container size, product interests, and destination country. We provide an initial price range and production timeline within 24 hours.
Step 2 — Product selection and specification. We work through the product mix, dimensions, finishes, and custom specifications with you. For new clients, we can provide a sample set (2–4 pieces) for quality inspection before committing to a full container.
Step 3 — Pro-forma invoice and deposit. Once the order is confirmed, we issue a pro-forma invoice. A 50% deposit triggers production scheduling; the remaining 50% is due before container loading.
Step 4 — Production. Your furniture is built in our Chiang Mai workshop. We photograph production progress and completed pieces and share updates throughout the lead time. Typical lead time for a full container is 6–10 weeks from deposit.
Step 5 — Quality inspection. Every piece is inspected before packing. Third-party pre-shipment inspection (e.g. SGS, Bureau Veritas) can be arranged on request at your cost — we welcome this for new relationships.
Step 6 — Export documentation and loading. We prepare all export documentation: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, and phytosanitary certificate (for solid wood). We coordinate container loading and booking with your freight forwarder or ours.
Step 7 — Shipment and delivery. Container departs from Laem Chabang Port (Bangkok), the main export hub for Thai goods. Transit times are approximately 25–35 days to the US West Coast, 28–38 days to the US East Coast, 25–30 days to the UK/Europe, and 18–22 days to Australia.
FOB and DDP Export Terms
We offer both FOB (Free On Board) and DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) export arrangements:
- FOB Laem Chabang — We deliver the container to port. You arrange and pay for ocean freight, insurance, and import duties in your country. Suitable for buyers with established freight forwarder relationships.
- DDP to your door — We manage the full logistics chain: factory to port, ocean freight, customs clearance in your country, and last-mile delivery to your warehouse or address. You pay one price inclusive of everything. Suitable for buyers who prefer a hands-off logistics experience.
We work with a network of trusted freight forwarders with experience in Thai furniture exports to the US, UK, EU, and Australia. We are happy to introduce you to our partners or work with your preferred freight provider.
Import Duties and Tariffs
Import duty rates on solid wood furniture vary by destination country. As a general guide: the US applies a 0% duty on most solid wood furniture from Thailand under MFN rates (check current schedules); the UK applies approximately 2.7% for wood furniture; the EU applies 0–5.6% for most wood furniture categories. We always provide an accurate HS code for your product classification to ensure correct duty assessment. Consult your customs broker for the definitive rate applicable to your import.
