Furniture Export from Thailand — Shipping Acacia Wood Furniture Worldwide

Tier 1 Furnishings has been exporting solid acacia wood furniture from Chiang Mai, Thailand to buyers across the globe for over a decade. We ship to the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and beyond — and we manage the full export process from factory floor to your door, or to port if you prefer to handle your own freight.

How Furniture Export from Thailand Works

Exporting furniture from Thailand is a straightforward process when you work with an experienced manufacturer. Here is how it works when you order from Tier 1 Furnishings:

Order confirmation. Once your order is confirmed and deposit received, we schedule production. We issue a pro-forma invoice with full product details, HS codes, and declared value for customs purposes.

Production and quality check. Your furniture is built in our Chiang Mai workshop. For container orders, we coordinate production across your full product mix to ensure everything is ready for loading at the same time. We photograph and inspect every piece before packing.

Export documentation. We prepare all required export documentation: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin (Form D for ASEAN preferential rates or Form A for GSP markets), phytosanitary certificate for solid wood, and bill of lading. We coordinate directly with your freight forwarder or ours.

Port and shipping. Furniture departs from Laem Chabang Port (Bangkok), Thailand’s primary deep-water export port. For parcel and LCL (Less than Container Load) shipments, we also use Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport cargo hub for air freight.

FOB vs. DDP: Which Export Terms Are Right for You?

We offer two principal export arrangements:

FOB (Free On Board) Laem Chabang gives you control of the cargo once it is loaded on the vessel at the Thai port. You arrange and pay for ocean freight, marine insurance, import clearance, and domestic delivery in your country. FOB is preferred by experienced importers who have freight forwarder relationships and want to manage their own logistics chain and costs.

DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) means we manage everything from our factory to your delivery address. We arrange ocean freight, handle customs clearance in your destination country, pay import duties on your behalf (recovered in the overall price), and coordinate last-mile delivery. DDP is a hands-off option suited to buyers who prefer a single all-inclusive price with no logistics management required on their end.

Shipping Times by Destination

Approximate sea freight transit times from Laem Chabang Port to major markets:

  • USA West Coast (Los Angeles, Long Beach, Seattle) — 20–28 days
  • USA East Coast (New York, Savannah, Miami) — 28–38 days
  • United Kingdom (Felixstowe, Southampton) — 25–30 days
  • Europe (Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp) — 25–32 days
  • Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane) — 15–22 days
  • UAE / Middle East (Jebel Ali) — 10–14 days
  • Canada (Vancouver, Toronto) — 22–35 days

These are estimates based on direct or one-transshipment services; transit times vary by carrier and season. We source freight through established forwarding partners to get competitive rates and reliable schedules.

LCL vs. FCL: Small Orders and Container Loads

FCL (Full Container Load) — If your order fills a 20ft or 40ft container, FCL is almost always more cost-effective. The per-cubic-metre rate is lower, and your goods are loaded and sealed in a dedicated container, reducing handling damage risk. See our container orders page for full details.

LCL (Less than Container Load) — For smaller orders that do not fill a container, we consolidate your shipment with other cargo at a Bangkok freight consolidation warehouse. LCL is more expensive per cubic metre but appropriate for smaller wholesale or trial orders. Typical LCL minimums are around 1 cubic metre.

Solid Wood Export and Phytosanitary Requirements

Solid wood furniture exports from Thailand require a phytosanitary certificate issued by the Thai Department of Agriculture. This certifies that the wood has been treated (kiln-dried) and is free from pests and pathogens. We obtain the phytosanitary certificate as a standard part of the export documentation process at no additional charge.

Some markets have additional import requirements for solid wood products. We are familiar with the requirements for our key export markets and will advise if anything specific applies to your destination.

Insurance

For DDP shipments, marine insurance is included. For FOB shipments, we strongly recommend that buyers arrange their own marine cargo insurance — this is typically arranged through your freight forwarder. Furniture is susceptible to transit damage, particularly on longer ocean routes, and insurance is a worthwhile protection on any sizeable order.
