Furniture Factory Chiang Mai — Tier 1 Furnishings Workshop

Tier 1 Furnishings operates a dedicated furniture factory in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand — one of Southeast Asia’s most established centres of skilled woodcraft. Our workshop produces custom solid acacia wood furniture for buyers across more than 20 countries, from individual homeowners to international furniture importers filling 40ft containers.

About Our Chiang Mai Factory

Chiang Mai has been the heart of Thai woodworking craftsmanship for centuries. The city and its surrounding province have a deep tradition of furniture-making, wood carving, and decorative craft that stretches back generations. Our factory is embedded in this tradition — employing local craftsmen, many of whom come from families with multiple generations of woodworking experience.

Our workshop team has over 100 years of combined woodworking expertise, specialising in solid acacia hardwood. We produce furniture across the full range — dining tables, chairs, coffee tables, bar stools, benches, console tables, restaurant furniture, and decorative art pieces — all handcrafted to order in our Chiang Mai facility.

What Happens in Our Factory

Every piece of furniture we produce goes through the following process in our Chiang Mai workshop:

Timber selection and kiln drying. We source sustainably harvested acacia hardwood from managed Thai and regional plantations. All timber is kiln-dried before production to reach the correct moisture content for stable, warp-resistant furniture.

Milling and dimensioning. Timber is cut to specification for each order. For slab tables, we select and match planks for grain character and colour harmony. For chairs and stools, legs and frames are precision-cut to ensure consistent assembly.

Joinery and construction. We use traditional joinery techniques — mortise and tenon, dovetail, and biscuit joinery — alongside modern CNC precision where appropriate. Joints are glued and clamped for maximum structural integrity.

Sanding and surface preparation. Pieces are progressively sanded through multiple grits to achieve a smooth, consistent surface ready for finishing. Live-edge pieces are hand-finished to preserve natural character.

Finishing. We apply oil, wax, lacquer, or stain finishes depending on specification. We use food-safe oil finishes for dining and kitchen pieces, hardwearing commercial lacquer for hospitality furniture, and marine-grade varnish for outdoor pieces.

Quality inspection and photography. Every completed piece is photographed and passes a multi-point quality check before packing. We share photos with international clients for approval before shipment.

Export packing. Furniture is individually wrapped, padded, and packed in export-grade cartons or crates designed to withstand international freight handling. Flat-pack assembly options are available for certain designs to reduce shipping volume.

Factory Visits

We welcome factory visits from buyers, interior designers, and importers. Visiting our Chiang Mai workshop allows you to see production first-hand, review timber selection, discuss custom specifications with our team, and select individual pieces or slabs. Many of our best long-term relationships began with a factory visit.

Chiang Mai as a Furniture Sourcing Hub

Northern Thailand, and Chiang Mai in particular, offers a compelling combination for furniture buyers: deep craft tradition, an established hardwood supply chain, competitive production costs relative to European manufacturing, and a quality level that rivals workshop production anywhere in the world. The region has attracted international buyers for decades, and Chiang Mai’s furniture workshops have responded by developing rigorous production and quality standards.

Tier 1 Furnishings sits in the premium segment of Chiang Mai’s furniture manufacturing sector — we do not produce the lowest-priced furniture in the region, because we do not compromise on materials or construction. What we offer is genuinely factory-direct pricing on high-quality, handcrafted solid acacia furniture, without the intermediary layers that inflate costs when buying through Thai trading companies or international distributors.

Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility

Our workshop uses FSC-certified or equivalent acacia hardwood from managed plantations. Acacia is a fast-growing species that reaches harvest maturity in 8–12 years and improves soil quality through nitrogen fixation — making it one of the more environmentally responsible commercial hardwoods available. We minimise waste in production by using offcuts for smaller pieces and decorative elements, and our finishing products are low-VOC where available.
